This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Town of Westport’s purchase of Longshore Club Park.

Join in the celebrations this season by attending some of the following events and festivities taking place in the following months:

May 20, 2010

Join us for a 50th anniversary bash on Thursday, May 20, 7:30 to 11 p.m., at the Inn at Longshore, for a fabulous rock and roll dance party rocking to the era of Motown, Beatles, ‘Stones and the rest of the British Invasion.  Dress up in your favorite ‘60s attire and dance to Cracked Ice, a happenin’ band specializing in playing the great sounds of this era.

Pre-paid, advance tickets only: $75 per person by April 30, or $85 per person after, includes hors d’oeuvres  and one alcoholic beverage. Cash bar available....more information>>

Westport Historical Society’s “Treasures of Longshore: The Kids’ Wall” Exhibit (Betty and Ralph Sheffer Gallery) “Longshore Memories” (Little Gallery)

“The Art of Longshore” exhibit at the Westport Library.

A collection of Longshore-inspired art and historical photos and images, on display in the Great Hall of the Westport Library. A reception will also be held, date and time TBA. For more information, please visit the Westport Public Library.

The Rotary Club of Westport’s 2010 golf & tennis outing, Longshore Club Park.

The special honoree at this year’s golf & tennis outing will be Herb Baldwin, Westport first selectman at the time of the Longshore purchase. For more information, please visit the Westport Rotary Web site.

Longshore, the Movie: Special Screenings

  • June 15, 7:30 p.m.— McManus Room, Westport Library
  • July 15, 7 p.m.—Westport Historical Society
  • August 10, 8:30 p.m.— Levitt Pavilion

The new documentary film, Longshore Club Park, Westport’s Crown Jewel, tells the rich and vibrant story of Longshore Club Park and its significant role in the lives of Westport residents. Come see this new film at its big-screen debut on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the McManus Room of the Westport Library, or later this summer at other venues around town.

Narrated by Frank Deford, the film features interviews with people instrumental in creating and sustaining this much-loved and treasured recreational facility for the enjoyment of Westport residents and visitors. Also showcased are rare archival photos as well as stunning aerial and on-the-ground tours of the park today. Produced by the Longshore 50th Anniversary Committee, with Jenniann C. Barile, Executive Producer; Gemmarose Tummolo, Director and Editor; and Doreen Birdsell, Cinematographer.

A second screening will take place at the Westport Historical Society on July 15 at 7 p.m., with a special outdoor presentation at the Levitt Pavilion on August 10, starting at 8:30 p.m.

Fourth of July weekend, 2010
