The Tree Board members are appointed by the First Selectman.
The Tree Board is responsible for advising and assisting the Tree Warden; in promoting the planting, maintenance, restoration and survival, of desirable trees and shrubs on Town property and in educating the public.
The Tree Board is implementing a landscape plan for Winslow Park. With the support of two grants from America the Beautiful and substantial help from the Parks Department, many trees have already been planted. Plans are also in the works for landscaping the new Longshore Pavilion. There are two planting seasons: spring and fall.
If you want to become part of this community effort, you can contribute in one or more of the following ways:
- Donate a tree, selected from the landscape plan to commemorate a special event such as a birth, graduation, or anniversary or as a memorial. The cost of a tree donation - $250, $500 or $1000, depending on size and species - covers the purchase of the tree, its planting and a two year guarantee. Donors will receive a certificate suitable for framing and be included in the Give a Tree Register in Town Hall.
- Contribute any amount toward the purchase of trees or shrubs from the tree list below.
- Volunteer to join the Tree Care Crew whose members monitor watering, spread mulch and weed around trees.
The landscape plan and tree list may viewed online, and downloaded to your home computer. A larger plan is available for inspection in the Parks and Recreation Department.
