Formed in 1979, WVEMS was chartered as a 501- (c) (3), not-for-profit organization. While managing the staffing of the ambulance service, WVEMS also raises the funds necessary to purchase all of our equipment, supplies, vehicles, communication gear and training materials. WVEMS members are a critical part of the “911” emergency response system.
Each year the WVEMS responds to over 2,100 medical emergencies, in both Westport and some surrounding communities as well. All on duty crews operate from Westport EMS headquarters 24 hours a day, every day of the year. Additionally, WVEMS is requested to provide hundreds of volunteer hours as “stand-by” emergency medical care for sporting events and large community activities.
