Chief Fiore's Welcome

Welcome to the Westport Police Department Web page

The Town of Westport’s Web site gives us the opportunity to tell you some of the things we do, the services we provide and how proud I am of our department and the community that we serve. While Westport is considered a “bedroom community” we remain a very busy police department. We are close to New York City; we have two Metro North Railroad Stations and two major interstate highways (Routes 15 & 95) that run through Westport. Route 1 runs through Westport and is flanked by numerous commercial and retail businesses.

The Westport Police Department is comprised of 70 full time sworn police officers, 18 part time special police officers, 39 traffic agents and 24 civilian employees. We provide many services to the community including the 911 Public Service Answering Point.

Our patrol services include a dedicated traffic enforcement unit, motorcycle and bicycle patrols and K-9 units.

The detective bureau consists of general investigation, burglary squad, youth services, Drug Abuse Resistance Education and Officer Friendly.

We also have a Marine Division staffed throughout the boating season and a joint Police/Fire Dive Rescue Team.

Our public safety office, animal control officers, railroad services for our two train stations and a Citizen’s Police Academy round out the services our department offers to the public.

We are proud of the fact the Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Services (WVEMS), is a part of our department. WVEMS was recognized nationally as one of the finest organizations in the country. While all of our police officers are first responders and trained to either the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), or Medical Response Technician level we do rely on the expertise of our six full time Paramedics and EMTs as well as the 120 volunteers that volunteer in excess of 22,000 hours a year to our community. The public is invited to become part of the WVEMS organization, you can learn more by calling (203) 341-6081, by visiting their Web site.

The newest addition to our department is the Citizen’s Emergency Response Team or CERT as it is known nationally. We have 44 volunteer members in the organization and they assist police and fire when our resources are stretched to their limits. CERT volunteers provide a vital resource to our community. If you are interested in joining or learning more call us at (203) 341-6039, or visit their Web site.

We are also the host agency for the Westport Police Athletic League (W.P.A.L.). W.PA.L. has over 75 volunteers that work with the youth of our community. We sponsor many sports-related programs as well as social and scholarship programs.

I want the public to know that we are here to assist you in any way that we can. I encourage you to call upon us whenever you think we might be of assistance. If you would like additional information please feel free to call us at (203) 341-6000.
