Elections/Voter Registration

It is the Town Clerk’s responsibility to oversee all aspects of any Town, State and Federal election, primaries and referendums.

The office creates paperwork for:

  • absentee ballots
  • voting machine strips
  • sample ballots
  • list of offices to be filled
  • candidate committees
  • campaign financing and
  • legal ads

We are also responsible for issuing, mailing and recording absentee ballots to the point of delivery the day of the election.

Who may vote by Absentee Ballot?

Any qualified registered voter unable to vote due to the following reasons:

  • Illness or physical disability
  • Absence from town during all election hours
  • Religious beliefs forbidding secular activity on election day
  • Serving as an election official at a polling place other than your own
  • Active service in the Armed Forces

How to Apply

Applications for Absentee Ballots can be obtained from the Town Clerk, the Registrar of Voters, Democratic and Republican Party Headquarters.

You canalso  get more information and download an application from the Secretary of State's website.

Any qualified voter already out of town may have an application mailed to them. However, you MUST allow sufficient time for mailing and returning the application AND the ballot.

VOTING BY ABSENTEE BALLOT HAS PRIVACY PROTECTIONS SIMILAR TO VOTING BY MACHINE. YOUR NAME WILL NOT BE CONNECTED TO YOUR VOTE WHEN IT IS TALLIED!  

If you need to register to vote, you can download the voter registration form.  This registration form must be returned to the Registrar of Voters office.
