Driveway, Sewer, and Road Opening Permits Information

Permits are issued from the Public Works main office on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, from 8:45 AM to 11:45 AM or by special appointment. The main office is located in Town Hall, Room 210.

Driveway Permits - $50.00

A driveway permit is required when a.) a new driveway is to be constructed; or b) an old driveway is to be modified in footprint. All work on new or modified driveways is regulated by Section 37 of the Town Code, the Driveway Ordinance. Existing driveways that are to be simply repaved or resurfaced do not require a permit. Placement of Belgian block or other non-asphalt paving products in the right-of-way requires a review by the Engineering Department, a driveway or road opening permit, and a Hold Harmless Agreement.

In order to obtain a driveway permit an application must be filed, complete with a plot plan or scaled drawing of the work and the application fee. No bond is required at this time.

Road Opening Permits- $25.00

Road Opening permits are required whenever work is to be performed within a town right of way, street right of way, or town easement of any kind. This work is regulated by Section 128 of the Town Code, Streets and Sidewalks.

To obtain a Road Opening permit, the applicant must:

  • complete an application
  • post a Road Opening Bond
  • provide the Department of Public Works with a Certificate of Insurance for the contractor doing the work.
  • a drawing of the proposed work must be submitted when obtaining the permit.

Sanitary Sewer Permits - $15.00

Sanitary Sewer Permits are required whenever a connection, disconnection, or repair is made to any part of the town’s sanitary sewer network. This includes new construction, demolition, and major renovations. Generally speaking if a sanitary sewer line is to be exposed to the air during any portion of the work, a permit is required.

All sanitary sewer work is regulated by the town’s Water Pollution Control Regulations. In order to obtain a sanitary sewer permit the property owner and a licensed drainlayer must complete an application, provide a Drainlayer’s Bond and Certificate of Insurance, and provide a sketch of the work.
