Transfer Station Information

The transfer station is:

  • Open 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday thru Friday and Saturdays 7:00 AM to Noon.
  • Open on holidays with the exception of New Years Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
  • Located at 300 Sherwood Island Connector across from the Commuter Parking Lot between Route 1 and the intersection of Greens Farms Road. (The Sherwood Island Connector is the road that connects Route 1 (Post Road) with Exit 18 of Interstate 95.)

Solid Waste Disposal

1. FEE SCHEDULE

  1. GARBAGE AND REFUSE (in excess of six 30-gal. bags)
    (Does not apply to licensed private collection trucks)
    Pick-up Trucks, Commercial Vans, other four-wheel Trucks, and small utility trailers $30.00 per load
    Larger Vehicles
    $80.00 ton* * charged to the nearest ton 
  2. BRUSH AND LEAVES (in excess of six 30-gal. bags/cans)
    Pick-up Trucks, Commercial Vans, other 4-Wheeled Trucks, and small utility trailers. $30.00 per load
    Larger Vehicles: $80.00 per ton
    NOTE: Larger vehicles may choose to weigh in at the Transfer Station prior to dumping at the Yard Waste Site (180 Bayberry Lane) in which case the load will be charged to the nearest 0.1 ton at $80.00 per ton. It is the responsibility of the individual to provide the weigh slip and the proper coupons to the attendant at the Yard Waste Site. The weighed truck must reach the Yard Waste Site within 30 min of the weigh-in time.

  3. BULKY SOLID WASTE
    Licensed collectors and commercial businessmen are charged $10.00 per Item of Bulky Waste. There is a $10.00 per item fee for all white goods delivered to the transfer station. There is no charge for other bulky items delivered to the transfer station by residents in automobiles with a valid Westport sticker. 
  4. CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION DEBRIS: PICK-UP TRUCKS, COMMERCIAL VANS AND SMALL TAG-ALONG TRAILERS.
    NO Construction and Demolition debris can be disposed of at the Westport Transfer Station.
  5. NON-RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE: LICENSED PRIVATE COLLECTION VEHICLES AND ROLL-OFF CONTAINERS.
    Charged to the nearest 0.1 ton at $81.00 per ton

2. CONDITIONS

  1. All coupons for dump fees must be purchased in advance. Coupons may be purchased at the Department of Public Works Office, Room 210, Town Hall between the hours of 8:30 A.M. and 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday. Coupons for dump fees may be purchased by mail by sending the appropriate fee, check or money order, no cash please, to the Department of Public Works, 110 Myrtle Avenue, Westport, CT 06880. Coupons will be sent out in the next day's mail.
    Licensed commercial haulers may establish an account with the Public Works Office to eliminate the processing of coupons. Further details can be obtained from the Public Works Office. 
  2. Before being permitted to dump, the driver must show that he has the required dump coupons.
  3. All Roll-Offs and Vehicles larger than a standard pick-up:
    1. All vehicles shall be weighed loaded upon entering transfer station, and again after dumping.
    2. Any load that has 25% or more of broken concrete, masonry and/or earth will not be permitted to dump.
    3. Anyone dumping a concealed load or partial load of construction and/or demolition debris without being weighed or paying a fee will be subject to fine and/or suspension, and/or termination of license in accordance with the Town of Westport Solid Waste Disposal Ordinance.
    4. Improper disposal of recyclables will be subject to fine and/or suspension, and/or termination of license in accordance with the Town of Westport Solid Waste Disposal and Recycling Ordinances.

3. LICENSING FEE

  1. A. COMMERCIAL COLLECTION VEHICLES - (GARBAGE AND RECYCLABLES)
    LICENSED JULY 1st - JUNE 30
     
    Up to and including 10 c.y. capacity $250.00 Annually
    Above 10 c.y. up to and including 15 c.y. capacity $300.00
    Above 15 c.y. up to and including 20 c.y. capacity $350.00
    Above 20 c.y. up to and including 25 c.y. capacity $400.00
    Above 25 c.y. up to and including 30 c.y. capacity $450.00
    Above 30 c.y. up to and including 35 c.y. capacity $500.00
    Trucks to carry Roll-Offs $100.00
    Recycling Trucks $100.00
  2. ROLL-OFF CONTAINERS
    LICENSED JANUARY 1 - DECEMBER 31
    ALL ROLL-OFF CONTAINERS $250.00 annually 
  3. Collection vehicles licensed after December 31st or roll-offs licensed after June 30 of any year will pay a license fee of one half the annual fee. 
  4. If license decals are lost or destroyed, a replacement set for a previously licensed vehicle or container shall be issued upon payment of a fee of $10.00.
