Code Red Information

The CodeRED emergency notification system is an extremely high speed telephone communication service that delivers customized emergency messages directly to homes and business at the rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour.

Westport has instituted the CodeRED system so that we can notify areas of the town, or the entire town, when there is an emergency situation that requires immediate action.  It will deliver our recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.

THE SYSTEM WILL ONLY BE USED FOR EMERGENCY NOTIFICATIONS

Examples of when Westport might use CodeRED to notify residents and businesses

  • Drinking water contamination
  • Utility outage
  • Evacuation notice and route
  • Missing person
  • Fires or Floods
  • Bomb threat
  • Hostage situation
  • Chemical spill or gas leak
  • School closing
