Sign up for emergency alerts

There are three emergency alert systems that are available for Westport residents.

Find out more below and sign up for one, two or all three.

Sign up for CodeRed High-Speed Telephone Emergency Notification System

The CodeRED emergency notification system delivers customized emergency messages directly to homes and business at the rate of up to 60,000 calls per hour.

We can notify areas of the town, or the entire town, when there is an emergency situation that requires immediate action.  It will deliver our recorded message to a live person or an answering machine, making three attempts to connect to any number.

Sign up for the CT Alert Emergency Notification System

The CT Alert Emergency Notification System allows state and local officials to help protect lives and property by providing critical information to residents during emergencies, including dangerous situations.

The CT Alert ENS is managed by the State Departments of Public Safety and Emergency Management and Homeland Security.

The system allows authorized users to quickly send out an emergency alert to residents in any affected geographic area within the state.  Depending on the emergency, the alert may be sent to an entire town, part of a town, a group of towns, or a large area of the state.

Sign up for the Nixle Community Information Service

Nixle allows the Police Department to create and publish messages to be delivered to subscribed residents instantly via cell phone text message and/or e-mail.

Messages may include:

  • road closures
  • time-sensitive public safety information
  • crime prevention tips
  • community event information
  • general news releases

The Nixle service supplements but does not replace the CodeRED emergency notification system.

There is no charge for this service but standard text message rates will apply for cell phone subscribers who do not have text message plans with their cell phone providers.

The message can be sent specifically to residents registered within a quarter mile radius, giving them the opportunity to receive information relevant only to their neighborhood.

Nixle is an opt-in service offered by the Westport Police Department.
