Site Excavation

Job # 3: Apr. 2007 – site excavation.  Trenches are dug to install much needed drainage links and to repair the broken sewer line.

New Exterior Columns replicate originals

Job # 4: Apr. 2007 – new exterior columns.  A pair of custom-made replicas, made of solid 6x6 cedar, stand with one of the original columns (white) as they wait to be installed at the front entrance.  The two duplicates, made by local woodworker, Alberto Castillo, will be used (along with the two remaining originals) to restore the front entrance to the four-column configuration seen in the historic photo.

Relocation of oil filler and breather pipes

Job # 5: Apr. 2007 – relocation of oil filler & breather pipes.  These pipes were moved from the front façade to the side façade to improve aesthetics.  L.H. Gault and Son, Inc., one of the oldest, family-owned businesses in Westport, generously donated this work.

Paint removal

Job # 6: Apr. 2007 – paint removal.  Years of paint are carefully removed from the chimney and portions of the porch.  Canum Restoration, one of the leading experts on paint removal for historic properties, did the work.

Interior demolition in basement

Job # 7: Apr. 2007 – interior demolition in basement.  A non-original structure is removed from the basement to make space for a new laundry area.

Original Portico Revealed

Job # 8: Apr. 2007 – original portico revealed.   An overhang built in the 1960s to extend the portico is removed to return the portico to its original 1921 dimensions.

Windows removed for restoration

Job # 9: May 2007 – windows removed for restoration.  Plywood temporarily replaces the original windows.  They have been taken off-site for paint stripping and repair.

Heating and AC installation

Job #10: May 2007 – heating & AC installation.  Edgerton Heating and Air Conditioning is generously providing pro bono installation of the air conditioning system.  The air conditioning equipment was donated by L.H. Gault & Sons, Inc.
