Land Acquisition Committee

See the Contact Us link for Committee Members.

The Land Acquisition Committee consists of seven members and one chairman, who are appointed by and serve at the discretion of the First Selectwoman and whose performance is reviewed on an annual basis or sooner should the need arise.

The Land Acquisition Committee is established for administrative purposes to act as the Selectwoman's advisor, assistant and facilitator concerning the purchase, lease or other acquisition of Real Property for municipal purposes on behalf of the Town of Westport.

The Land Acquisition Committee also acts to collect and document information derived from municipal agencies, department heads and other sources in order to produce a municipal needs summary. On the basis of this summary the Land Acquisition Committee investigates alternatives and recommends an action plan to address these needs.

In its work, the Land Acquisition Committee complements, and helps to implement the recommendations and actions of the Conservation Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission, Park and Recreation Commission, Board of Education, Representative Town Meeting, Board of Finance and any other municipal, state or federal agency, and complies with their respective authorities, purposes and responsibilities.
