Bedroom 2

Bedroom 2.

Bedroom 3

Bedroom 3.  Note the in-swinging screens on the window – they are original.  The built-in storage units and louvered doors are not original and will be removed.

Doors and lockset

Doorknob & Lockset.  The doorknobs and locksets found on the bedroom doors are also original.

Upstairs bathroom

Upstairs Bathroom.  This bathroom, one of two in the house, was gutted prior to the start of the project.  It will be rebuilt mostly as it appeared originally, complete with a donated antique sink and linoleum floor.

Basement

Basement.  The large basement has a stone foundation.  The post seen in the middle of the photo is actually a small tree trunk and was used for support.  An engineered support system will be installed in the basement to reinforce the first floor.

Hand Hewn Beam

Hand Hewn Beam.  This one appears in the basement and holds up the first story.  Many materials in the house were recycled from earlier structures.

The Restoration Process Beginning in February 2007

Tree Removal

Job #1:  Feb. 2007 - Tree Removal.  The first work performed at the house was the removal of several dangerous and encroaching, self-planted trees.

Kitchen floor-Asbestos removal

Job #2: Mar. 2007 - Asbestos Removal.  The old kitchen flooring contained asbestos.  It was professionally removed down to the original wood shown here.

Bathroom floor asbestos removal

Job #2: Mar. 2007 - Asbestos Removal.  The old flooring in the upstairs bathroom also had to be removed down to the original subfloor.  The subfloor appears to be recycled, 18th century siding that was likely cut locally on a water-powered sawmill.
