Emily McLaury House Photo Gallery 1

Emily in front of the house

Emily McLaury & her house. This photo of Emily McLaury standing in front of the house was taken in the 1920s.  The committee would like to restore the entrance to its original appearance.

Front View

Front View.  This photo was taken in February 2007, prior to the start of restoration work.  The over-scaled shrubs will be removed to restore the landscaping to its original appearance as was appropriate for the 1920s.

Front Entrance

Front entrance.   The classically-styled entryway and landing will be returned to its original appearance including the double columns and benches as shown in the 1920s photo.

Rear and Side view

Rear view.  Several changes will occur beneath the porch level, most notably the removal of the closed, lower storage area, to restore the rear elevation to its original appearance.

Rear Porch

Porch.  The open, rear porch is one of the home’s most attractive features.  Note the Tuscan columns – a textbook Colonial Revival feature.

Living Room

Living room.  This view is taken from the dining room and shows part of the living room and its fireplace.

Dining Room

Dining room and bay window.  The old kitchen stove is stored here temporarily.

Kitchen

Kitchen.  This photo shows work begun prior to the involvement of the Historic District Commission and McLaury Committee.  The work was halted to make sure that a period-appropriate solution was designed.

Window hardware

Window hardware.  Although many of the windows have been painted shut, most retain their original hardware.

Windows

Windows.  Windows are the eyes of the house and these historic originals help define its historic character.  The intent is to restore these valuable architectural elements to working condition.

Stairway

Staircase.  An unusually wide staircase and simple banister lead to the second floor.

Bedroom 1

Bedroom 1.  The master bedroom faces Myrtle Avenue and fills with morning sun.
