Welcome to Westport's Web site
Whether you are browsing from afar or are already here, we welcome your visit. Our goal is to provide you not only with information but eventually to give you the ability to conduct much of your business with Town Hall electronically.
Westport is a unique blend of cosmopolitan sophistication and small town New England seashore charm. Conveniently located one hour from Manhattan on Long Island Sound, the town is home to many young families as well as those who have lived here for years. It is a winning combination that keeps us up to date with fresh ideas along with a respect for our Yankee heritage.
Westport's artistic history dates back decades when the town was known as an artists' colony. Today our cultural and recreation attractions are known far beyond our borders - the Westport Country Playhouse, the Levitt Pavilion, several community theater groups, the Westport Arts Center, Compo Beach and Longshore Club Park. Westport also hosts one of the state's most popular attractions - Sherwood Island State Park.
We have a vibrant downtown area and a mix of restaurants for every taste. Our public school system is one of the nation's best and serves as a magnet for those seeking the best education for their children. Our Center for Senior Activities is one of the newest additions to the town's offerings and attracts hundreds of users a week. We have a lively, outspoken citizenry whose involvement in town affairs and volunteer activities makes us the envy of many. Our professional, dedicated workforce provides superior services for our 26,000 residents and more than 7,000 workers who daily commute into Westport.
Westport is an exciting place to live and we hope this Web site gives you a sense of how proud we are of it. Should you have any concerns, suggestions or questions, please do not hesitate to contact the First Selectman's Office, 110 Myrtle Ave., Westport, CT 06880. Also, please come and visit our town!
