Westport First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff joined other municipal leaders in Hartford on May 27 to press the state legislature for an early agreement on the budget and to urge legislators not to pass any additional unfunded mandates.
Among those joining Joseloff at a news conference in the Capitol were Wilton First Selectman Bill Brennan, Weston First Selectman Woody Bliss, and New Canaan First Selectman Jeb Walker.
The rally and news conference were organized by the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities, the Council of Small Towns, and the Capital Region Council of Governments.
“It is imperative to get action on a budget to protect and at least maintain level funding of state aid to municipalities,” Joseloff said. “We have approved Westport’s 2009-10 budget and don’t need any surprises from Hartford. The governor and legislature need to do their job.”
He added, “Legislators must resist any attempts to impose additional unfunded mandates on Connecticut towns and cities. Enough is enough.”
During the Hartford visit, Joseloff met with state Representative Joe Mioli of Westport and state Senator Toni Boucher of Wilton to discuss legislative matters.
