The Westport Farmers’ Market opened Thursday, May 21 at its new location, the Imperial Avenue Commuter parking lot (adjacent to the Westport Woman’s Club). The market will be held every Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. through Nov. 19. More information is available at the Westport Farmers Market Web site.
The new, waterfront location offers ample parking, easy access to town and enough space to host up to 30 vendors. Additionally this year’s market features a community tent, a 40 seat area where visitors can meet, enjoy their market treats and learn about why and how to enjoy local foods.
Each week the market will feature a cooking demo, product tasting or talk from a local chef, instructor or farmer that will make working with market foods even more fun and delicious. Director Sherri Brooks Vinton says, “The market is more than a place to buy food, it’s a place to learn, eat and gather. The tent encourages that sense of community.”
On opening day the tent featured music from Lisa Furman (with Chris Teskey on guitar). At 11 a.m. it hosted an informal opening ceremony to welcome the new season.
The Westport Farmers’ Market Association, a cooperative group of farmers who operate the market, are grateful to the Town of Westport for sponsoring the tent as part of this year's Celebrate Westport programming.
