First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff has announced that Westport has received notification from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) that it will be updating data about the Connecticut coastline, including its flood insurance maps.
The updating will involve field inspectors surveying coastal areas, he said. The inspectors, in making their coastal flood analysis, will engage in visual inspection of the shoreline to identify changes in physical conditions from previous surveys.
FEMA representatives performing the survey will carry identification which they will produce upon request, Joseloff said.
“For the safety of our residents and their properties, it is important that Westport have updated coastal flood maps,” said Joseloff. “The town plans to work closely with FEMA to insure the most accurate data and maps feasible.”
