Kevin Godburn, director of Toquet Hall, Westport’s teen center, announced today that a free workshop on financial planning will be offered to students and parents on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 7:30 – 9 p.m. at Toquet Hall. It has been rescheduled from Feb. 10 because of the storm.
Presented by the Connecticut Money School (CMS), the program will help families prepare for college by talking about financial health and spending habits and reviewing college funding options, he said.
“Every year, thousands of high school students rush to the mailbox eagerly awaiting college acceptance letters,” said Godburn. “In the current economic climate that excitement is also met with a daunting task of paying the ever-rising tuition fees.”
The workshop, “10 Keys to Financial Health: Make Sure You're Financially Fit Before You Head to College,” will be led by Elizabeth Cox, principal of Cox Financial Services, LLC, in Westport. Cox is a registered Connecticut Money School volunteer. Co-leader of the workshop is Paula Levy, a licensed marriage and family therapist, coach and mdiator with a private practice in Norwalk and Ridgefield.
Space is limited and seating will be first come, first serve. For reservations contact Kevin Godburn by e-mail: toquethall@hotmail.com or phone (203)341-1155.
A second follow-up seminar entitled, “ABCs of Financial Literacy: What Every Teen Should Know About Money Before They Go to College,” will be offered on Wednesday, March 31.
These classes are sponsored by the Westport Department of Human Services in conjunction with CMS. CMS provides free financial education and is a project of the Connecticut Association for Human Services and five nonprofit partners including FSW, Inc. and 211 Infoline/ United Way of Connecticut.
