Westport Municipal WiFi extended to Compo Beach and Longshore

Numbers indicate locations of WiFi transmitters

Westport First Selectman Gordon F. Joseloff has announced that the town’s free municipal WiFi service to access the Internet has been extended to areas of Compo Beach and Longshore Club Park.

“This will eventually enable us to use the new Parks and Recreation Department software currently being installed to help us coordinate recreational activities in both areas,” he said. “In the meantime, it allows residents and visitors high speed access to the Internet.”

Signs indicate location where WiFi may be accessed

Signs identifying the availability of service have been erected by the town’s Office of Information Technology at Compo Beach, where there are five access areas, and at Longshore, where there are three.

At Compo, WiFi transmitters are located at the beach entrance, the playground pavilion, the brick pavilion, the Ned Dimes Marina, and at the end of South Beach. At Longshore, they are at the pool area, the pavilion, and at the E. R Strait Marina.

The latest coverage expansion is in addition to Town of Westport WiFi installations at Town Hall, the Westport Center for Senior Activities, the Westport Public Library, and most recently, the Saugatuck Railroad Station.

“We are very pleased to offer this expanded service to our residents,” said Eileen Zhang, director of the Office of Information Technology.
