Planning & Zoning Director Michelle Perillie has announced that at 6:00pm on February 2, 2026, the Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing to review Text Amendment #860 of the Zoning Regulations. This text amendment proposes revising the Excavation and Fill Regulations, found in §32-8, to exempt grading within 25 feet of accessory buildings from Planning and Commission review.
Section 32-8.1.2 does not explicitly reference accessory structures, which has resulted in some minor, low-impact projects being subject to full excavation and fill review. These projects would still be subject to review by the Town’s Engineering Department, who ensure that the proposed excavation and fill activity will not have any adverse engineering impacts.
The February 2, 2026 public hearing will be held remotely using Zoom, it will be livestreamed on the Town’s website at www.westportct.gov, and/or will be accessible on Optimum Government Access Channel 79. The remote meeting link is published on the meeting agenda available on the Town’s website on the “Meeting List and Calendar” webpage.
Written comments may be submitted and should be sent to PandZ@westportct.gov by 12:00pm on the day of the meeting if intended to be distributed for consideration by members of the Planning and Zoning Commission. Written comments received after 12:00pm on the day of the meeting will be added to the record but not be distributed until the next business day. Meeting materials are available at www.westportct.gov on the P&Z Dept. web page under “P&Z Pending Applications & Recent Approvals.”
