The Department of Public Works has announced that Cross Highway, from its intersection with North Avenue to Wakeman Farm Drive, will be closed to through traffic from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, and Friday, June 12, to facilitate gas line replacement and utility work in preparation for the upcoming Cross Highway Bridge replacement project over Dead Man’s Brook.
During the closures, local traffic will continue to have access to Cross Highway from Bayberry Lane to Wakeman Farm Drive. All through traffic will be directed to follow the posted detour route during construction hours.
Westport emergency services and representatives from the Westport Public Schools have been notified of the planned closure to minimize disruptions.
To accommodate graduation ceremonies, the road and bridge will be open on June 15 and 16 for students, families, and visitors attending events at Staples High School and Bedford Middle School.
The previously announced detour associated with this bridge replacement project is scheduled to begin on June 19 and remain in effect through approximately August 20. An additional reminder of that detour will be sent early next week.
Motorists are encouraged to use caution when traveling through the area, allow additional travel time, and obey all posted construction, detour, and safety signage.
