First Selectman Kevin Christie announced today the appointment of Laurence (“Larry”) Roberts as Director of Public Works for the Town of Westport, effective July 6, 2026.

Roberts brings more than three decades of experience in public service, including municipal public works, facilities management, emergency communications, and public safety. A Westport native, he currently serves as Director of Public Works and Facility Management for the Town of Weston, where he oversees highway operations, facility maintenance, fleet management, municipal solid waste operations, capital projects, and long-range infrastructure planning.

During his tenure in Weston, Roberts has overseen state and federally funded bridge replacement projects, managed major water infrastructure improvements, administered operating and capital budgets, and led a multi-division department serving the community.

Prior to joining Weston Public Works, Roberts served as Director of the Weston Communications Center and spent more than twenty years with the Greenwich Fire Department, retiring as Deputy Fire Chief. In those roles, he developed extensive experience in emergency management, interagency coordination, personnel leadership, and operational planning.

“Larry brings extensive experience managing personnel, budgets, facilities, infrastructure, and emergency operations,” said First Selectman Christie. “He has successfully led multi-division municipal departments, overseen complex capital projects, and built strong working relationships across organizations. I am excited to welcome him back to Westport and look forward to working together.”

Roberts holds a Master of Science in Fire Science/Public Administration from the University of New Haven, a Bachelor of Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and is a graduate of the National Fire Academy’s Executive Fire Officer Program.
