The Westport Police Department, in partnership with the Westport Youth Commission (WYC) and Sunny Daes of Westport, is excited to launch a new community safety initiative rewarding local youth for making smart choices while riding their bikes.
The program aims to encourage safe riding habits among young cyclists while fostering positive relationships between local youth, law enforcement, and local businesses. Westport Police officers will be keeping an eye out for young bicyclists who follow essential safety rules, including:
- Always wearing a helmet
- Riding safe and smart
- Being a responsible rider
Young riders caught practicing safe habits will receive a special reward voucher from officers as a way of saying, "Thank you for riding safe and being awesome!" Each card can be redeemed at Sunny Daes of Westport for one free kiddie cone or cup.
As we wind down the summer and head into the busy school year, let’s help keep our roads safe for everyone.
