Renters' Rebate may be Available for Elderly/Disabled Westport Residents
Human Services Director Elaine Daignault announced today that the Department of Human Services is now accepting applications for the Renters’ Rebate Program available for income-eligible seniors (age 65+ ) and disabled individuals receiving state Social Security benefits. Persons renting an apartment, room, mobile home, or living in cooperative housing may be eligible for this income-based program. The amount of the rebate is based on a graduated income scale and the amount of rent and utility payments (excluding telephone) made in the calendar year prior (2018) to the year of application. Maximum income received in 2018 for a single person is $36,000 and for a married couple $43,900. Recipient must be 65 or older or 18 years or older and receiving Social Security income. A one-year residency in Connecticut is required.
Deadline to apply for this State Funded program is September 27, 2019. Those who qualify for this program are urged to call the Human Services Department to arrange an appointment to apply by calling (203) 341-1050.
