Newtown Turnpike Bridge over Route 15 Closing June 24 through August 26
The Selectman’s Office received the following notification from the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CT DOT) yesterday:
In conjunction with the rehabilitation of the Newtown Turnpike Bridge over RT 15, the CT DOT contractor will be closing the Newtown Turnpike Bridge over Route 15 to traffic on June 24, 2019.
Work will include removing the parapet and existing roadway, excavating the overburden, patching any deteriorated concrete and installing waterproof membrane. The bridge will be restored and new HMA pavement installed.
Bridge traffic will be restored by August 26, 2019 to avoid any interference with the local bus routes. Message boards have been installed to alert motorists and the required Detour signage is being installed.
CDOT reserves the right to postpone the closure.
