Town Gains Certified Floodplain Manager
Planning & Zoning Director Mary Young announced today that Michelle Perillie, Planner for the Town of Westport, was recently qualified by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to be a Certified Floodplain Manager following rigorous training and testing.
The work of Floodplain Managers is fundamental to the effective management of floodplain resources and flood mitigation. A Floodplain Manager is the principal administrator in the daily implementation of flood loss reduction activities including enforcing the community’s flood damage prevention policies, updating flood maps, plans, and policies of the community, and administration of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Ms. Young stated, “the residents of Westport are fortunate to have Michelle working on their behalf. She has served the Town of Westport as a planner for close to 20 years working with all aspects of land use planning with a special concentration in environmental issues. She became a licensed Professional Planner as qualified by the American Institute of Certified Planners in 2006. Becoming a Certified Floodplain Manager will enhance not only her credentials, but her abilities to help support residents who are living in flood prone areas. We are proud of her accomplishments.”
