TEAM Westport asks: What’s on your kid’s bookshelf?

Awareness of the benefits of, and need for, placing more diverse books in the hands of ALL of our children is gaining national attention!

Sparked by the March 2014 New York Times Op Eds by Walter Dean Myers & his son Christopher Myers:

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/16/opinion/sunday/where-are-the-people-of-color-in-childrens-books.html?

and fueled by the work launched in April 2014 by www.weneeddiversebooks.org.

the children’s book publishing industry is poised for change!

It’s happening all around us.

WHY? Because diverse books allow children of color to see themselves as part of the story, and they allow white children to see children different from themselves as part of the story.

Let’s read and share the articles. Let’s talk about the issues.

Westport can lead the way!
