Vernal pools are a delicate habitat pressed by multiple stressors, yet home to a surprising array of life.  Species such as fairy shrimp, spotted salamanders, and wood frogs call these places home and struggle to live anywhere else.  Westport is lucky to contain hundreds of vernal pools ranging from under a hundred square feet in area to over a few thousand.
