The Westport Police Department utilizes license plate reader technology to capture objective evidence without compromising individual privacy. The Westport Police Department employs retroactive search capabilities with this technology to investigate crimes after they have occurred. Additionally, the Westport Police Department utilizes real-time alerting from this technology to notify officers when a vehicle associated with a missing person, kidnapping, amber alert, silver alert, wanted criminal, or criminal investigation passes a license plate reader. In addition to implementing a department policy that addresses proper procedure and prohibited conduct, the Westport Police Department has made usage statistics from our Flock system available to the public.
