The Selectman's Office ensures the seamless management of the town while prioritizing sustainability, citizen engagement, and long-term growth.

 

Mission and Key Goals

Policy Leadership:

      •   Setting and implementing town policies.

      •   Long-term planning for sustainable development.

      •   Initiating new projects and guiding town committees/boards.

Environmental Stewardship:

      •   Developing practices and policies to foster sustainability.

      •   Ensuring Westport is a community that supports the environment and future growth.

Civic and Intergovernmental Representation:

      •   Representing the town in civic, business, and public functions.

      •   Collaborating with state officials, legislators, neighboring towns, and regional organizations.

Grant Pursuits:

      •   Actively seeking funding opportunities to benefit the town.

 

Administrative Functions

Citizen Assistance:

      •   Responding to citizen inquiries, complaints, and concerns promptly and efficiently.

Town Correspondence and Record-Keeping:

      •   Managing records for the Board of Selectmen, Traffic Authority, Water Pollution Control Authority, and committees appointed by the First Selectman.

Facilities Coordination:

      •   Overseeing the scheduling of Town Hall meetings and spaces.

      •   Approving the use of town property and facilities, including rentals to non-profits.

 

Office Structure and Leadership

First Selectman:

      •   Leads with 17 direct reports covering all aspects of town governance (except public schools).

Second and Third Selectpersons:

      •   Advisory roles with voting rights in the Board of Selectmen.

      •   Oversight of assigned projects.

Operations Director:

      •   Handles special assignments, complex complaints, and new initiatives.

      •   Leads efforts to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.

      •   Builds partnerships among employees, residents, and stakeholders to promote environmental stewardship.
